Illinois Beach State Park (South)

1999-10-12

Guess what? There are still lots of mosquitoes in October.

Well I followed HWY 31 until it turned into a divided highway. Then I took backroads east until I hit Sheridan Rd. I've been following that south.

I made horrible time. That south wind was evil. It was like biking through a foot of mud. A couple of times I wanted to cry. Finally by about 2:00 it began to turn south-westerly and slow down a bit.

Well here I am in the park. I wasn't going to pay $11 to roll my sleeping bag out on the ground, so I'm waiting until it's dark and I'm just going to sneak into a more-or-less hidden spot and spend the night. That's commando camping.

Nothing else of interest to report. I just hope that bloody wind changes direction by tomarrow. It shouldn't take me longer than 4 or 5 hours to get to my first stop in Chicago, Andy-N-Company's house. I'll send out a phone number when I know it.
