Let's hike Florida!

At the very beginning of 2004, I put much consideration into embarking on a adventurous hike across Florida. So I quit my job, bought a bunch of gear, got all ready to go, and then I . . . didn't go.

Well, a year and a half later, I'm at it again. I'm a little closer this time. I don't have a job. I've sold most of my stuff and moved out of my apartment. And I've got a plane ticket to Key West.

My goal is to hike from Key West to Pensacola via some roads and the Florida Trail. (For a whole pile of information on the Florida Trail, check out the Florida Trail Association web site.)

It aught to take me three months, starting in September. Most people who are crazy determined enough to hike across the golf-course state start in December / January to avoid:

  • Bugs
  • Heat
  • High Water
  • Hurricanes
  • Heat
  • Mosquitoes
  • Heat

Well, I've only got a limited window of opportunity, and I intend to make the most of it.
