Duluth

2010-06-02

Ah city life. I miss it about as much as that strange rash I picked up while hiking in Florida. But I must admit Duluth has that old our-roads-made-sense-100-years-ago charm you find in really ancient cities. It reminds me a lot of Milwaukee with its splattering of industry and block-by-block weather changes. But the architecture speaks to winters of harsh misery.

I'm told there is a lot to see here in Duluth, but I've spent most of my time staring at my laptop. I did take my bike for a spin yesterday. There are people out and about everywhere you look. I saw a park full of old ladies playing some sort of old-lady game. There were people much more hip than myself congregating at curbside diners. Bums and shiftless looking folk sauntered about some of the more neglected streets. I even said hello to a group protesting Israel's treatment of Gaza.

But, as I said, I spent most of my time hunkered over my laptop responding to work issues. Such is my obeisance.

I attached a map of my route across Wisconsin.
