A short unremarkable day

2010-07-17

I didn't sleep very well. The barking dogs contributed to that; as did the horses, Interstate 90 and very loud trains that passed every few hours. Oh, and spiders kept crawling all over my face. I was on the road for a good hour before the sun even showed itself.

One more thing I can say about these Indian reservations: If you enjoy being chased by dogs of indeterminate breed and temperament you should visit here.

I followed a feeder road into Hardin and then Old Highway 87 into Billings. It wasn't as hot as yesterday, and I enjoyed a tail wind. Those freaking yellow flies were vicious. They had no trouble running down my bicycle. I had to slather myself with bug repellent just to keep biking pain-free.

As I was approaching Billings the thought suddenly struck me that if I continued along my desired route I could very well end up outside of cell and internet range for four or five days. That could be troublesome. You would think I would have considered this sooner, but I guess I had hoped that at some point my job would stop presenting me with daily issues and crises, but it never came to be.

So I'm stopping in Billings to contemplate my route from here.
