Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

2011-12-25

tl;dr: I visited Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Oh look, Border Patrol!

I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. I did a little hiking. In the morning I biked the 21-mile scenic loop. I met only 2 vehicles on that loop, and both were Border Patrol. No stories worth telling. I took some pictures.

Though I rolled or stopped through about five or six checkpoints the Border Patrol never gave me a hard time. I guess I looked touristy enough.

I made more vancam videos. Just because. As usual, I do not recommend wasting your time watching them.

I made this short video back in Tonto National Forest. The only reason I'm posting it is because I went through the trouble of making it. I didn't spend much time picking music.

After camping out in the desert I got an early start on my drive to Organ Pipe. Here are the first couple hours. As an aside, this video did teach me how much I do not drive in a straight line.

Here is what the road looks like if you drive from Gila Bend down to Organ Pipe.

After leaving Organ Pipe, I traveled east to Tucson. This resulted in the Worst Video Ever. It turns out that pointing the camera out the passenger window on a bumpy road with lots of trees isn't a great idea. Anyway, this is two and half hours of Highway 86 (Tucson-Ajo Highway) compressed down to 15 minutes. If you can stomach it.
