The Flume

2013-06-22

tl;dr: I visited The Flume in Franconia Notche State Park, hiking about 13 miles altogether.

I'm in Lincoln, New Hampshire. Today I visited The Flume in Franconia Notche State Park. It was interesting enough. See the pictures to the right.

After The Flume tour, I decided to hike up Flume Slide Trail to the top of Mt Flume. It turns out that "Flume Slide Trail" should just be "Flume Slide". Toughest. Hike. Ever. Label my butt kicked. The last mile was a rock scramble up a forty-five degree or better incline. There were lots of small pine trees to grab with branches broke off at poke-you-in-the-eye height. I've never gotten so cut up on a "hike". I met many folks on those trails (most of whom I was passing up). Pretty sure I'm the only person in the entire park who didn't realize how tough that hike was going to be. Even after finally getting to the top, I had several miles of up-and-down rocky steps before I was back down off those mountains.

Once up on top, the tough climb was mostly worth it. Standing on top of a mountain is always gratifying.

Altogether I hiked about 13 miles today.
