Need A List

tl;dr: Forgot my bicycle tire pump. Biked along Hennepin Canal again. Camped in pine trees. Forgot my flashlight.

I was going to wait until it got warmer, but the ibuprofen was kicking in, and I was already tired of that motel.

I had realized yesterday, and confirmed last night, that I never packed my bicycle tire pump. Technically, I had packed it, but then took it out of the pack to fix a bike for somebody. So I biked into Sterling and purchased a new one at Mead's Bike Shop.

From that point on I spent much of the day re-tracing my kayaking route from 2012 along the Hennepin Canal system. It is faster on a bike. The canal is mostly bordered by trees. I pushed along a pair of herons for an hour or two. They just kept flying ahead of me.

I forgot how long and how remote this trail is. In the middle of nowhere there was an old man sleeping on the trail. I stopped to ensure he was okay. He said he was. I ran out of water at some point was forced to drink canal water. It wasn't that bad.

Eventually I came across a park with water. I think the canal water tasted better.

Unlike yesterday, there was a stiff headwind almost all day. And I was already tired, and now sunburned. By 4 PM, I was done. I stopped to rest in a field nestled in some of the only forest encountered all day. I thought to myself, this would be a good place to camp. I just need to sneak into those woods. Then some hunters pulled up on the road and (apparently) started a tailgate party. Stupid hunters. I left.

A few miles down the road I found a patch of pine trees. I like camping in pine trees. It turns out these pine trees are nearly impenetrable. Eventually I made my way to a spot. I waited until nearly dark to set up my tent, because this little stand is surround by houses (my phone even offered to connect so somebody's wifi). That's when I realized that I never packed a flashlight. I really should have made a list.
