Tower of the Four Winds

2016-09-09

tl;dr: I'm finally into Nebraska! And it's raining.

The last ten miles or so out of Iowa was very flat as it crossed the Missouri River bottom. But to make up for this geologic reprieve, Iowa made the only road crossing it a narrow, truck-infested highway. It was not enjoyable.

After visiting Black Elk-Neihardt Park in Blair, Nebraska I was tempted into a Chinese Buffet. The radar showed rain incoming so I made my way to a park shelter. I grow weary of waiting out rain. After the worst of it had passed, I decided I would take a chance and continue on down the road.

It wouldn't be Nebraska if there weren't a cold steady rain. I should have had more layers on. Not only did I judge the rain incorrectly, but the temperature dropped substantially and a stiff wind picked up. I stopped in Freemont for a bit to get out of the wind.

Nearly all of my cycling today was on Highway 30. I don't like Highway 30 much. It is very busy. Tomorrow I think I'll veer off onto the dirt roads again, even though that's a more indirect route.

I ended the day in a row of pine trees behind an abandoned house.

good morning first flat ground I have seen in days

Highway 30 kind of sucks.

Welcome to Nebraska!

Waiting out the rain. Again.

It looks like I'm following an historical route.
