Highway 34 to McCook

2016-09-13

tl;dr: I rode 80 miles along Highway 34 from Holdrege to McCook where I got a room. It was boring.

I didn't intend to spend the day on a highway. Even though Highway 34 has a six to eight foot shoulder and I had a wicked tail wind, I still found it to be a tedious ride. However, my phone has been acting up and refusing to charge without much wiggling of the cord. It may be close to death, and I've grown used to having a phone. As far as I can tell, my route will take me through a phone-store desert for the next week, so I decided to take a slight detour into McCook to buy a new one.

The day was cold and cloudy and a bit rainy, but the northeast tailwind was just crazy, and it pushed me all the way to McCook. I could have easily done another 20 miles before dark to get a century in, but that will have to happen another day.

I will be here until Thursday.
