Arches National Park

2016-09-28

tl;dr: I visited Arches National Park and stopped for the day in Moab.

Man alive Arches National Park doesn't want bikes on its dirt roads. As soon as I crossed the gate from ranch land into the park, the road turned to absolute garbage. But once I got to pavement all was well, if you ignore the folks who have no idea how to pass a bicycle (which can be hard to do when you are on a bicycle).

Arches National Park is really neat. I didn't see all of the arches available to those willing to hike, but I bet I saw a few small ones missed by those who drove by to quickly. Look, pictures.

There were a lot of Asian tourists at Arches. One Asian women spoke to me when I stopped to take a picture. "You are courage. Many hard. Many hard." I thanked her.

After Arches I was going to loop around through Dead Horse Point State Park, but I was just too lazy. Pathetic, I know.

I stopped at the Lazy Lizard Hostel and got myself a private room. Because I'm exhausted and lazy that's why. It turns out John has been here since yesterday. He passed me up on Highway 50 because somebody offered him a ride. He also didn't loop up and around Arches. He was on his way to the thrift store to try replace some gear he dropped on the Kokopelli Trail.

Given the exorbitant prices of every other hotel in town, the Lazy Lizard is downright affordable, even if you get a private room. The rooms ans dorms are kind of cabin-like with a shared bathroom and shower building. The group here is much different than the group in Crested Butte. It seems to be a split between kids and older guys. All look poor.

good morning Arches National Park

I've seen little in the way of critters except antelope and these bunnies. There are a lot of these bunnies.

This road is horribly washboarded.

The Asian tourists who didn't slow down kicked up a pile of dust.

It is kind of green here.

Probably hard to tell, but there are at least three arches in this picture.
