Hole N''The Rock

2016-09-29

tl;dr: I started late, got tired, and quit early.

I sat around in my room all morning contemplating staying another day as the rain splattered outside. I was actually still pretty tired, and another day of rest would be nice. Late morning the rain stopped and I decided to hit the road.

That was dumb.

As soon as I hit the edge of Moab the wind kicked up out of the south and forced me into low gears. The highway was busy and narrow and there was a lot of climbing. And a lot of RVs. After 15 miles I made it to a rest stop. Right after that was the Hole in the Wall tourist stop, which I didn't study much due to the rain. Right after that more climbing and more wind and it was raining, and I gave up.

I pushed my bike off into some rocky BLM land between two giant canyons. Oh look, more scenic canyons. I found a relatively sheltered spot where I could set up my tent maybe a half-mile from the highway. And there I sat the rest of the day reading a book as the wind attempted to knock my tent about.
