tl;dr: I stopped in Escalante for the day.

Escalante is a poor town that seems like it should be a tourist hub but just quite isn't. Even so, all the hotels are filling up every night. I went to Subway for breakfast (because other restaurants I saw were closed and I couldn't get a phone signal to lookup any other restaurants) and I could have a sandwich with anything on it as long as I didn't want tomatoes or green peppers. The grocery store was out of bananas. It seems the town had expected to shut down but then got an influx of tourists.

I ended up getting a room at the Prospector Inn, but because they were full up the night before I had to do laundry at the RV park, eat an expensive lunch at the Circle D Eatery, and wait on the Prospector Inn lobby couch for a couple hours before a room was available. That didn't matter much, because I spent most of the day catching up on this blog.

Welcome to Escalante

Built in 1890. Moved here sometime later. Locked and full of brochures.
