Leaving Las Vegas

tl;dr: Got a ride to Las Vegas. Heading West.

I rode back to Las Vegas with Tom. Because I'm lazy. There is just no good way to bicycle across Nevada. The few highways are narrow, long, busy and dry. The gravel roads are very rough and even drier. From Las Vegas going west isn't too bad, though.

There is a lot of building going on in Las Vegas. Tom tried to talk me into staying and learning his wallpaper trade.

Leaving Las Vegas, the highway was closed to bicycles due to construction. Apparently the Department of Transportation had dictated that the road should allow bicycles during construction. But that would have been crazy. Even if allowed, I would have not biked that narrow highway with the cement blocks on each side. Fortunately, there are single-track mountain bike trails along the highway. They were hard work on my touring bike, but I was able to get past the construction.

I camped early just short of the city of Pahrump. Because I'm lazy. I'd been up since 3 AM. Also, now I can be in Pahrump for breakfast.

beware of burros

Well that's just great. There are no other roads.

I am forced onto single-track.

The road equipment sports pirate flags.

beware of sheep

beware of deer

I don't know what I think about this.

across more flat desert

good night Nevada
