Castle Rock

tl;dr: I almost made it to Castle Rock, but was distracted by Josh's pigs.

I know it isn't all that cultural, but I decided to go see a movie while in Thames (TEMS). I was the only person in the theater.

Then, back at the hostel, the only occupants were myself and two German girls. They decided to watch The Bridge Jones Diaries. It wasn't very good. So I left.

I don't know if I can recommend the Sunkist Guesthouse. The owner is a bit of a control freak. But she does keep the place clean.

I headed north from Thames. I cut inland to see Waiau Falls, but before I got there I came across a bunch of free-ranging pigs. These are not wild pigs (mostly). They are pets of a guy named Josh. He loves just showing off his pigs to tourists. I don't think Josh or his brother ever wear shoes.

I ended up having a long conversation with a drifter named Dan who was hanging out at Josh's place. Dan is not logical. Then a neighbor, Charlie, showed up on his ATV and was immediately swarmed by every chicken, peahen and pig within range. He carries corn with him. Charlie was a mechanical engineer and had all sorts of stories to tell.

When I finally left I had just enough time to make it to the base of Castle Rock before it started getting dark. Dan told me about it. I will climb it tomorrow.
