Hennepin Feeder Canal

tl;dr: I took a left turn off the Rock River onto the Hennepin Feeder Canal. Canals are boring.

If you ever have the opportunity to camp on a goose-infested island, don't. The honking! It never stops.

Far be it for me to continue on down a scenic river when more mundane paths are available. At Sterling I hung a left onto the Hennepin Feeder Canal. I stopped briefly in Rock City for breakfast and groceries, and then spent the rest of the day slowly paddling that long, straight canal.

Of course, there were occasional corners, but nothing drastic. I rarely exited the Kayak because the canal banks were steep, and because it was too cold to get in and out of the water. The canal remained level, but the land around the canal slowly fell away until I saw little but the tops of trees over the banks on either side of me. It was windy, but it was hard to tell in the canal. I had hoped for a push from the wind, but the canal banks and trees effectively blocked it.

All day I poked along, eventually turning left again when I arrived at Hennepin Canal proper. I paddled for another hour or so and stopped to camp at a spot I judged to be protected from the wind.
