No Wind

2012-07-11

tl;dr: How is there no wind on the ocean? For most of the day I peddled along in breezeless air.

I checked out late and so was on the water for only about nine hours today. In that time I bet I had two hours of useful wind. I had another thirty minutes of absolutely useless wind, by which I mean I was headed directly into a storm wind, all the time thinking the wind will probably die as soon as I round the next peninsula and can take advantage of it, which it did. And the rest of the day was spent with no wind. No wind? How is there no wind on an ocean? How does that work?

I saw a lot of working boats. They are significantly less shiny than play boats.

By the time the sun was setting I was still on the water. I had been aiming for a small peninsula called Alligator Point, and for the previous hour it just didn't seem to be getting any closer. Stupid lack of wind.

I decided I'd try sleeping on one of my trampolines tonight. The trampolines are stretched between the kayak and the outrigger. Might be comfortable.
