tl;dr: A boring day on the Mississippi. Bluff mining. Dead Catfish. Sandy beaches.

I am so tired of sleeping indoors and fidgety staying in a hotel for two days. This was probably exasperated by not being able to periodically confirm that my kayak hadn't wandered off, because I had it hidden in woods a mile and a half away.

That raptor chick was still in the roots as I made my way back to the Mississippi. I felt bad leaving it there, but it would probably have shredded my arm had I attempted to move it. There was a half-eaten mouse next to it, so either it got really lucky or it has a parent helping it out.

This stretch of the Mississippi is scenic. Look, there's a perfectly good picturesque bluff. Let's mine it for rocks.

I started my first fire today. I almost never light fires while camping. I created this fire while eating lunch just so I could burn garbage. My own garbage that is. I threw in some other garbage as well, though.

A school of dead catfish came floating down the river. I have no good theory.

Because the Mississippi is often referred to as the "Big Muddy", I expected more mud. But I see sandy beaches all day long, at least on the Illinois side. It's getting late, so let me find a place to camp. And...nothing but rocks. But at least it's not mud.
