Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway

tl;dr: I'm off Pickwick Lake and onto the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway in Mississippi. Canals are still boring.

I cut off a fisherman this morning. That is, I got between his boat and where he was fishing. He was...not pleased. Sorry Mister Fisherman. That was totally my fault. I wasn't paying attention.

But that got me thinking: Who is pleased with what I'm doing out here in this kayak, aside from possibly myself? After much philosophical debate with myself, I came to the conclusion that nobody is. Of course, most folks who are even aware of my travels are indifferent. But I can say with some certainty that I have no acquaintance or family member that wouldn't rather I was doing something more useful. I never really considered what it feels like to live a lifestyle that absolutely nobody agrees with. It is enlightening. Of course, I am now compelled to draw conclusions. I am still considering this, but I am leaning toward, "whatever."

Anyway, I found myself loathing air conditioning. So after only two nights in the Pickwick State Park Inn I started paddling again. Pickwick Lake is home to many people either much richer or very much poorer than me (hard to tell, really, based on all the For Sale signs). Eventually I entered the the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway and made my way into Mississippi. There are no big houses here. In fact, there is pretty much nothing along this canal. Except rocks and snakes. It is very boring.

I set up camp on top of a pile of ants. When I noticed that they were swarming me I became concerned, as I'm still smarting from three prior ant bites. Fortunately these are not fire ants. They are just little black ants. They should have my kayak stripped of all loose edible matter by morning.
