2012-05-31 tl;dr: Just sharing a canal with the towboats. Bay Springs Lake is a choppy mess due to wind. Big storm. I must admit that canal paddling is pretty boring. Although not being in a body of water that is two miles wide is a nice change. Also, the towboats are closer.Eventually the the canal disgorged me into Bay Springs Lake. There was a good headwind, so the water was choppy. I passed a sailboat twice (because I took a break after the first pass). That sailboat was tacking for all she was worth. I never realized how both fast and slow a sailboat travels while tacking. Around 4:30 I was trying to decide should I stop, or should I paddle the rest of the lake and lock down to the canal again? I checked the weather. Stop it is! A storm was blowing in. And boy did it blow. I probably should have set my tent up farther back in the woods. |
