2012-06-16 tl;dr: Don't camp on rocky beaches because they heat up during the day and radiate heat at night. It turns out that rock beaches are horrible places to camp. The Southern sun heats those rocks up during the day. Setting a tent on them just causes the tent to become inordinatently hot, cooking you as if in an oven as that stored heat radiates up all night long. I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out.I haven't really mentioned the heat and humidity too much. It's hot and humid. I keep commenting at the remoteness of this river, but today was the most remote yet. I like it. I saw nary a fisherman most of the day. In fact I saw more towboats and yachts than fisherman. Two couples traveling to Pensacola on a pontoon boat stopped and offered me a sandwich and a Coke. That was a great sandwich. |
